LEAD GEN DATA IDEA
🔍 Using BuiltWith To Find Much More Targeted Prospect Lists

⚠️ The Friction:

You know those businesses in your market running Square, Stripe, or Shopify? The ones you know you could save money or improve operations for? The problem is finding them at scale. You can’t walk into every storefront and peek behind the counter.

What if you could just... search for them? All of them. In one place. Someone was nice enough to put that list together for you already 😂

The Solution:

It’s called BuiltWith (builtwith.com) and it’s a dream tool for anyone targeting online businesses. BuiltWith crawls the internet and indexes what technology every website is running. Payment processors, ecommerce platforms, analytics tools, CRMs. All of it.

Want to find every business in your area using Square on their website? Done. Want a list of Shopify or Bigcommerce stores that might benefit from better payments setups? You got it. Want to target businesses running Stripe that might not have the best account stability or pricing? No problem.

This isn’t some underground hack. It’s a free tool that’s been around for years. The payments sales world just doesn’t talk about it, like, at all.

🛠️ Build It:

1. Go to builtwith.com and search for a technology

2. Filter by location, industry, or traffic size to narrow it to businesses in your territory.

3. Go through the list and find people you’d like to reach out to. You can export the list (free tier gives you a taste, paid plans (not cheap but maybe worth it for your use case) give you the full download).

4. Now you’ve got a highly relevant lead list of businesses you KNOW are using a specific processor and you can pitch against it. “Hey, I noticed you’re running Square on your website. Most businesses your size are overpaying by $200-400/mo. etc etc etc”

⭐ The Outcome:

Instead of cold outreach to random businesses, you’re reaching out to people you already have intel on. You know their tech. You know their weakness. That’s not cold calling, that’s surgical prospecting. Even 50 targeted leads from BuiltWith will outperform 500 cold emails to a list from a random provider.

PROSPECTING & OUTREACH IDEA
🎵The Outside-The-Box Lead Gen Method That Is Crushing For Me Right Now

I'm about to tell you something that sounds insane. Bear with me.

There's a free AI tool called Suno (suno.com) that generates full songs with vocals, instruments, the whole thing … from a text prompt. Some of you may have played around with it for your own brand. You type in a prompt or lyrics, pick a genre, and 30 seconds later it spits out a studio-quality track that sounds like a real artist made it. Honestly one of the coolest AI softwares out there. And I use it to generate leads.

Here's the play: Make local businesses a free custom jingle. Send it to them. Ask for nothing.

That's it. That's the whole move.

Pick a merchant in your town. Spend 5 minutes producing a business branded song about and for them with their name, their food, their staff, the thing the locals love about the place. Run it through Suno. Get back a real-sounding country tune (or pop, or 80s rock) about Joe's Pizza and how Joe's been slinging the best slice on Main Street since 1998.

Then send it to Joe. No pitch. No ask. No "by the way, can we talk about your processing rates." Just:

"Hey Joe, I made you a free jingle. Use it however you want. Put it on your Instagram, play it in the shop, ignore it completely. No catch. Just thought you'd get a kick out of it! - Zach"

That's the entire message.

Why this works: Nobody has ever made Joe a song. Nobody. Especially not a sales person lol. In Joe's entire 27 years of running a pizza shop, every single person who's walked through his door has wanted something from him. You just walked in and gave him something for free. That's a moment Joe is going to remember for the rest of his career.

He's going to play it for his wife. His kids. His staff. The regulars at the counter. He's going to post it on the shop's Facebook page. Some of those plays are going to be hundreds of free impressions for him and every single one of them traces back to you.

A week later, you stop into the shop. Or you call. Or you send a follow-up: "Hey Joe, hope you got a kick out of the jingle. Totally unrelated but I help merchants on Main Street and a few of your neighbors save a few hundred a month on processing. Maybe we can chat sometime about that?”

You're not a cold caller anymore. You're "the guy who made me the song." That's a different category of human in Joe's mind. Cold callers get hung up on. Friends who do nice things get coffee meetings.

I built a full step by step playbook on this with templates, the strategy and process, the follow-up, and the soft conversion sequence to turn song recipients into closed deals (without ever feeling salesy).

MORE DIRECT MAIL GAME
📩 Direct Mail Idea Of The Week

Mail prospects an envelope full of Monopoly money and a note card.

Stuff a plain envelope with $500 in fake Monopoly bills. Drop in a card that says:

"This is real money your business loses every month (maybe more!) to credit card processing. Want to stop? My contact is below if your curious to see how you could pay $0"

555-555-5555 or go to wingmanleads.com

Ship 20 of these to a strip mall, plaza, or vertical you want to own. Total cost: ~$15 for a Monopoly money 100-pack on Amazon, ~$15 in postage, plus envelopes. Two days later, follow up: "Hey, did the envelope of cash show up? I wasn't joking about your business being able to pay $0 for credit card processing"

Why it works: The moment they tear it open and bills spill out on their desk, you own their attention for 10 seconds. Nobody throws away cash before reading the card, even fake cash. They’ll be curious why you sent it.

A Pro tip: Stack this with the BuiltWith play above. Use BuiltWith to find merchants running Square or Shopify, ballpark their volume, then mail the envelope with a number tailored to their setup. Surgical, weird, and impossible to ignore.

🎯 Resources, Tools & Useful Things

  • ⚡️ BuiltWith (builtwith.com) — The prospecting weapon from today’s Big Idea. Free for individual lookups. Search by technology (Square, Stripe, Shopify, Toast, Clover) and get a list of every business running it. Paid plans unlock bulk exports and filtering.

  • ⚙️ Suno (suno.com) — AI music generator. Create full songs with vocals from a text prompt in 30 seconds. Free for 10 songs/day (paid plan gives access to better songs and more of them). Use it for prospecting (see above) or just to make your team’s hold music less painful.

  • 📌 esnc.me — Chat with AI models of historical figures. Want to practice your sales pitch on Marcus Aurelius? Bounce a business decision off Einstein? It’s weirdly useful for thinking through problems from a different perspective. Socrates is a great chat.
